FAQs
Is perspex the same as acrylic?
Sheets of Perspex are essentially just sheets of acrylic however ‘Perspex’ is a brand whereas an acrylic sheet is an item. There are many other brands of acrylic such as Plexiglass, Acrylite and Lucite.
How big is a sheet of acrylic?
Our acrylic sheets are available in a range of sizes up to 3040mm x 2040mm. We can cut plastic sheeting to your desired size to minimise cost and waste. Call us on 01455 819437 for more information.
Can clear acrylic go cloudy?
Yes due to it being susceptible to damage from ammonia-based chemicals. This is why the cleaning instructions for acrylic plastic are specific about using low-impact cleaning solutions and substances like water, soap, and vinegar.
Can you make cloudy acrylic clear again?
Of course you can! You can attempt to remedy the acrylic by using water and vinegar. Vinegar is a very common household cleaner which lifts dirt from surfaces effectively. By mixing equal parts of water and vinegar and dousing the plastic in the solution for an hour, you may notice a difference in the cloudiness of your plastic.
However, it should be noted that this may not restore your plastic to its original condition. If this is the case you can always try sanding the acrylic using a number of different grits, followed by a more abrasive polish.
Is acrylic better to use than glass?
All acrylic sheets are more shatter-resistant, stronger, lighter and more resistant to erosion than glass.
Can you drill through acrylic?
Acrylic sheets, and branded acrylic require special drill bits to properly drill through them. Our drills are designed specifically for drilling into acrylic sheets, unlike normal metal drill bits which cause damages such as chipping and cracking.
How do you cut acrylic cleanly?
Our CNC cutting machines are designed to get the smoothest cut possible from any acrylic however, if desired we can also polish the corners to ensure a flawless finish.
What can clear acrylic be used for?
There are various applications including acrylic splashbacks and secondary glazing to display cases and furniture. Due to the durability and flexibility of acrylic plastic once heated, it can be moulded into many shapes, sizes and thicknesses. So it can be used for almost anything you can think of.
